Dashboard vs Control Plane: The Difference That Matters
A dashboard presents information. A control plane governs decisions and actions across systems.

A digital twin is a living virtual model of a physical operation — a warehouse, a supply network, a production line — kept current by real operational data and used to simulate decisions before making them. Where a dashboard reports what is happening, a twin can be asked what would happen: if demand doubles, if this node goes down, if we move safety stock.
Twins move operational analysis from reactive to rehearsed. Network design, capacity planning, and disruption response all improve when the question "what happens if?" can be answered by a model instead of by the actual outage. The price is steep: a twin is only as good as its data feeds and its model's fidelity, and a stale or miscalibrated twin produces confident, wrong simulations — the most dangerous kind.
A single pane of glass is an observation instrument for current state and near-term action; a twin is a simulation instrument for future state and planning.
